As temperatures rise across Europe, startups are feeling the heat, not just physically, but financially. The effects go far beyond discomfort: a global study of 17,000 companies found that days above 30 °C lead to an average 8.4% drop in daily revenue and a 26% hit to operating profits. Another analysis of 2.7 million firms across 23 countries revealed that just 10 days above 35 °C can reduce annual labour productivity by 0.3%, with even a typical 5-day heatwave cutting it by 0.2%.

Startups are especially vulnerable. With fewer resources for cooling infrastructure, remote setups, or flexible policies, teams lose momentum fast. Ironically, climate-tech founders find themselves caught between exposure to the risk and opportunity to solve it. But here’s the upside: the growing demand for climate adaptation - whether it’s heat-monitoring tools, smart infrastructure, or sustainable work environments - is driving a new wave of innovation. If you’re building in energy efficiency, agri-tech, or urban resilience, heat isn’t just a threat, it’s a market signal.

This is more than a wake-up call for operational planning, it’s a product roadmap. And Portugal’s climate-tech scene is stepping up: from EV infrastructure and renewable energy to circular economy platforms. Startups like Windcredible, Powerdot, Cleanwatts, Raiz Vertical, Inductiva, Seedsight, Oceano Fresco, Wisecrop, and PFX Biotech, just to name a few, are turning environmental challenges into investment-ready solutions.

As we ease into summer, the calendar is heating up too. July’s event lineup is looking stronger, a sign that our ecosystem is not slowing down. There’s plenty of room to check Adamastor calendar and catch a talk, make new connections, and still sneak away to one of our beautiful beaches or a cool spot with A/C and cold drinks.
